Two Mitsubishi i-MiEV Battery-Electric Vehicles to Join California’s Evaluation Fleet
Mitsubishi Motors North America announced today that it will loan two of its zero-emissions, new-generation i-MiEV battery-electric vehicles to the State of California for evaluation in their test fleet.
The move comes as the governor's office and the California Department of General Services both expressed interest in the inclusion of electric vehicles into the state's support vehicle fleet.
During a press event Monday, company officers introduced Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to the i-MiEV and he later told reporters that the BEVs are representative of the technology necessary to tackle the sustainable transportation challenges facing the Golden State.
It's expected that key committees within the state's legislature will use the vehicles to gain insight about BEVs and the infrastructure needed to support widespread adoption of them.
The i-MiEV went on sale in Japan last July. Mitsubishi has slated the vehicles to go on sale in the U.S. in the fall of 2011.
